^Lot 2650 DESIREABLE EARLY ROSS "R SERIES" REELS WITH EXTRA

SPOOLS. These reels were handmade by Ross Hauck in the late 1970's and at the time retailed for $464.50 for a set of 3: $596.50 with 3 extra spools. The ventilated spools are known by collectors as "Daisy" pattern and only found on early reels. 1) 3 reel set sizes 1,2 and 3 with ventilated spools in original wooden box with sliding cover. Reels have black anodized finish with early matte aluminum feet and tension drag adjustment. Sides are marked "the" "ROSS REEL" "Etna, CA" and with S#s all three reels are "No. 00101" without size prefix. No owners name is present. Early advertising notes: "each set of 3 reels will have matching serial numbers with the name of the owner hand engraved on each reel". Also includes early Ross Reel literature with handwritten notes and creases. CONDITION: #1 size appears unfished. #2 size shows considerable use with some corrosion on foot. #3 shows light use with marks on foot from reel seat. Box is very fine; soiled on cover. 2) Ross #3, black anodized finish on body and foot. Marked "the" "ROSS REEL" "Etna, CA" and with S# "No. 3-0798". In cardboard box marked for a # 1. CONDITION: very fine with some rubs on body. No usage marks. Box is chipped on corners.3) 2 spare spools; solid for #3 reels. CONDITION: 1 shows rubs, the other appears unused but has backing, in white boxes with Ross labels. 4) 5 spare spools. 2 #1 ventilated (in box, 1 without), 2 #2 ventilated both in boxes, 1 #3 ventilated in box. CONDITION: all appear to be unused. Boxes are chipped and creased. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of Berrien Moore III. (02-25870-1/MGM). $1,000-2,000.
